Biddulph doctors has asked residents to stop calling to ask about booster jabs.

Biddulph GPs have urged residents not to call to ask about their plans for the rollout of booster Covid jabs in the town.

GPs say that they only heard about the booster jabs scheme being expanded at the same time as residents, and need time to get the arrangements in place.

Biddulph Doctors on Wharf Road added that residents will be contacted about their booster jabs in due course.

A spokesperson said: "Please do not phone your GP surgery, we heard when you heard and need a little time to organise the necessary staff and also find out when we will be able to get the extra vaccines delivered.

"We have already increased capacity at our current clinics and a further clinic has been arranged. You will be contacted by text to book into these.

"Please also be aware that in order to deliver the Government's promise, we have again been asked to stand down all non-urgent services so you may not get an appointment for any routine matters until the New Year.

"However biddulphdoctors will endeavour to continue with the service we provide with as little disruption as possible.

"Please be patient and please be kind to your surgery staff. This is a challenging time for all of us."

It has been reported nationally this week that long queues are forming around walk-in centres and the NHS site has crashed several times as people attempt to get their boosters before Christmas.

Yesterday was the first day that over 30s can book the jab, while over 18s will be allowed to do so from tomorrow (Wednesday).

The NHS said on Twitter yesterday: "The COVID vaccine booking service is currently facing extremely high demand so is operating a queueing system.

"For users aged 18-29, please be aware that booking opens on Wednesday 15 Dec.

"For all others experiencing waits, we would advise trying again later today or tomorrow."
