All sixth form students at Biddulph High School have been told to self-isolate following a positive Covid-19 case.
The school has had to temporarily close its sixth form until Monday, 30th November, and students will be taught remotely.
It remains unclear whether the person who has contracted coronavirus is a student or a staff member.
In a letter sent to parents of sixth formers yesterday (Tuesday), headteacher Simon Ascroft said the period of self-isolation would end at 11.59pm on November 27 (Friday).
Mr Ascroft said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.
"We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child has been in close contact with the affected individual. In line with national guidance your child should now stay at home and self-isolate until 23:59 on Friday 27 November 2020 (14 days after contact). Your child should log into MS Teams for the daily timetable of work.
"It is crucial that your child remains at home during this period, to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community.
"If your child is well at the end of the 14-day period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities. Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the 14-day self-isolation period. Your child should return to school on Monday 30th November 2020."
