Biddulph motorists reminded they still need to display tickets for FREE parking after "fines issued"

By Jack Lenton 4th Aug 2020

Those enjoying free parking in Biddulph's car parks this month have been reminded that they still need to display a ticket on their car, after some drivers were apparently issued penalty notices for not doing this.

Biddulph Nub News reported previously how parking charges have been suspended in the town for August, as well is in other car parks around the Moorlands.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council made the decision to allow free parking for up to three hours in its car parks in an effort to attract shoppers back to high streets following the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, those using the car parks should be aware that they will still need to display a ticket on their cars, even though parking is free.

Ticket machines are now issuing a three-hour ticket, for which there will be no charge.

Biddulph town and district councillor Nigel Yates said: "It seems some drivers have had fixed penalty notices on Biddulph Car Park for not displaying a "Free Ticket".

"Please make sure you collect a free ticket when using all Staffordshire Moorlands District Council car parks."

Discussing the introduction of free parking, district council leader Sybil Ralphs said: "The key to a strong recovery is for people to shop locally and support their local businesses. We want to support our towns and villages as they start to welcome people back and we're pleased to be able to do that with this offer of additional free parking.

"We have worked with partners to ensure the appropriate safety measures are in place - including enhanced hygiene regimes and signage in the car parks - to ensure people can have the confidence to use them.

"But I would remind everybody that that virus has not gone away and it remains as important as ever that we all keep the required distance away from others, cleanse our hands regularly and wear face coverings in shops which is now a requirement."
