Biddulph vets have received messages of thanks after raising hundreds of pounds for two wildlife organisations.

Seven members of the Charter Vets Biddulph team completed their own lockdown version of the famous Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Lower Moss Wood Wildlife Hospital and the Peak Wildlife Centre.

The Three Peaks Challenge usually sees participants attempting to climb the three highest mountains in Britain - Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon.

However, in the true spirit of lockdown, the team decided to instead climb the combined heights of the three mountains - a massive 3408m - by walking up and down the stairs in their veterinary practice.

Between 18th May and 6th June, the team climbed 1175 flights of stairs to achieve the feat, raising an amazing £860 on their GoFundMe page, and even managing to fit all their climbing around their usual work at the practice.

Veterinary Surgeon Dr Carole Potter wrote on the page: "We are raising money for 2 great local causes in need of funds.

"These are Lower Moss Wood and Peak Wildlife Centre. Lower Moss Wood looks after and rehabilitates sick and injured wildlife. Peak Wildlife Park is a small zoo which has been forced to close temporarily due to Covid-19 but still need to feed and look after the animals there.

"So we would like to help out. Please make a donation to support these important causes."

The team have now received thanks for their fundraising efforts, with a spokesperson for Peak Wildlife Park saying today: "A huge thank you to Charter Vets in Biddulph for their amazing fundraising efforts!

"The money you have raised along with everyone's kind donations has meant here at Peak, we can continue to provide the highest levels of animal care during these difficult times."

The GoFundMe page is still open for donations, so click here if you would like to contribute.
