A Biddulph woman was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for her incredible work in helping to provide toiletries and essential items to hospitals and other public services during the pandemic shortages.

Hannah Findlay, aged 31 from Biddulph, was awarded the British Empire Medal after co-ordinating the collection and donation of over 4,500 items to five local hospitals, and a huge array of other services including nursing homes, police stations and fire stations.

Hannah worked with her colleagues at the Co-op in Milton to organise the donations after being inspired by her sister, who works for the NHS and explained that panic buying during the pandemic was causing a shortage of much needed items at local hospitals.

Now store manager of the Crewe Co-op, she was also recognised for her work in looking after her colleagues in a range of Co-op stores around the area and supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

Hannah spoke to Biddulph Nub News about being recognised for her work, saying: "I found out through an email, and at first I thought it was spam! So it definitely came as a surprise.

"I got a letter commending me for my services and inviting me to the Queen's garden party.

"I couldn't have done it without the staff at all the local Co-op stores - we reached out to all the stores across the area for their help and they were amazing."

Hannah is one of 23 Staffordshire residents to be recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Alan White, Leader of Staffordshire County Council, said: "When I see the achievements of those Staffordshire residents who have been honoured by Her Majesty, I am invariably impressed by their spirit, their achievements and their commitment to making the world a better place.

"Staffordshire has many strengths and natural assets, but invariably its biggest is the people who make up our many communities."

Mr Ian Dudson CBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire, said: "I am delighted that Her Majesty has recognised so many residents, who have made a significant contribution to their community, either professionally, or in a voluntary capacity.

"I would like to congratulate all of these worthy recipients on behalf of the whole ceremonial county of Staffordshire - we share their pride and pleasure in this notable achievement."
