Plans approved to build "appropriate" new detached home in Brown Edge
A planning application has been approved to build a new detached home in Brown Edge after a previous application on the same site was turned down by the council.
Biddulph Nub News reported previously how an application submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council aimed to get permission to build the home on land adjacent to Fair View, Bank End.
The applicant, a Mr David Miller, hoped the designs submitted in the latest application would be appropriate after a previous application was refused.
The district council rejected the previous application for several reasons, including the design "being at odds with the street scene", as well as inadequate external amenity space, and "awkward access arrangements" for vehicles.
The revised application aimed to address these concerns, with the proposed home being a two storey building with two bedrooms.
A statement by Rob Duncan Planning Consultancy prepared on behalf of the applicant stated: "The proposed scale, massing, design and layout of the development is considered to be in keeping with the character and appearance of the surrounding area and will afford an appropriate level of residential amenity for future occupiers of the dwelling.
"The concerns previously raised about awkward vehicle manoeuvres have also been resolved, and consequently this revised proposal is considered to meet the requirements ... of the Staffordshire Moorlands Local Plan and guidance contained within the National Planning Policy Framework."
In a report, the district council's planning officers agreed that the latest plans would allow the home to "assimilate" with the area's surrounding buildings.
It stated: "Unresolved in this new scheme is the oddity of the juxtaposition of the building especially in the levels difference with the 'host' dwelling.
"However as noted in the report this is to some extent a characteristic of this part of Brown Edge.
"By the use of matching stone and tiles in a significant up-grade to the quality of the materials finish and addition of chimneys the design may assimilate more readily.
"Taking account of all the changes, especially the measures to provide outdoor amenity space to the minimum standard, the scheme can now be judged on balance acceptable and is therefore recommended for approval subject to conditions."
