A new "micro-pub" has opened to serve real ales to the people of Biddulph a day after "Freedom Day", which saw the removal of Coronavirus restrictions in England.

The new pub, based on Biddulph High Street, is called The Crafty Flanker and opens for the first time from 4pm today.

The pub is run by Front Row Brewing based in Brindley Ford and is made up of two rooms predominantly selling real ale.

The opening comes after Staffordshire Moorlands District Council granted planning permission to convert The Yard milkshake shop on Biddulph High Street into a bar.

A spokesperson for The Crafty Flanker told Nub News today: "Front Row Brewing based in Brindley Ford have opened a brewery tap, The Crafty Flanker in Biddulph High Street, selling an ever changing range of cask and craft beers and lagers along with real cider and speciality gins."

Biddulph Nub News reported last month how a licensing application made by the pub revealed that its target market is predominantly those aged 40 and over, and that the pub will target the early evening market, using the business to promote beers from Front Row Brewing.

The application added that no mainstream beers or alcopops will be sold (the application gives examples such as Carling and Stella Artois as examples of brands that won't be sold at the micro-pub).

The application also added that the business "won't attract troublemakers as they probably won't like what we sell or the quiet atmosphere that will be encouraged with no music or TV".
