Biddulph's octogenarian mayor will be taking fundraising to the extreme soon - when she attempts an indoor skydive for charity.
Cllr Sylvia Rushton, who is Biddulph's current mayor and is 82 years old, will be raising money for the mayor's chosen charities by skydiving at iFly in Manchester.
The hair-raising feat involves being blown into the air by an extremely strong fan, which gives the illusion of freefall.
Ever the adrenaline junkie, Cllr Rushton initially wanted to do a real skydive, but settled for the next best thing after a genuine skydive from a plane posed too many health concerns.
Cllr Rushton was meant to take on the skydive on April 10th, however due to travel issues it has now been rescheduled for Wednesday next week.
Cllr Rushton's daughter Sharon is helping to organise the fundraising effort.
She said: "Councillor Sylvia Rushton is the current Town Mayor of Biddulph. She is registered blind and 82 years young but if you ask her she will tell you she is 21!
"She wants to raise money for this years Mayor's Charities which are Staffordshire Sight Loss and Biddulph Food Banks, she will also donate some money to local community projects which have started during her year of office.
"She wanted to do a parachute jump but for health reasons she is unable to. She will take part in Indoor Skydiving at iFly in Manchester. She hopes people will sponsor her to take part in this, there will be video evidence of her completing this challenge."
