Biddulph residents will have the chance to help crack down on speeding motorists in the town at a community speedwatch event this weekend.

A training session for newcomers as well as a refresher for current members is being held at Biddulph Town Hall.

The session will give people the chance to sign up for their local community speedwatch group and have the chance to catch motorists who flout the town's speed limits.

The session is being held on Saturday from 10.30am - 1.30pm.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team said: "Final call for volunteers to join Community Speed Watch.

"Training for newcomers or refresher session for current members at Biddulph Town Hall from 10:30-13:30 Saturday 22nd October.

The speedwatch scheme involves volunteers from local communities going out to speeding hotspots with radar speed guns to monitor the speed of passing traffic.

However, motorists cannot be prosecuted if a speedwatch volunteer clocks them travelling above the speed limit - they will instead receive a warning letter from the police.
