The number of people who have died with Coronavirus in the Moorlands has seen a sharp spike in recent weeks, with nine people dying with the virus in the latest weekly update.

This is compared to six deaths the week before, and three deaths the week before that. In the weeks prior, only one death was being recorded each week.

It comes as the Moorlands, along with the rest of England, is in the midst of a four-week lockdown period lasting until December.

The local Coronavirus death figures are released weekly by the Office for National Statistics, with the latest figures relating to the week ending Friday, November 13th.

The figures also show that seven of the latest nine weekly deaths occurred in a hospital. One occurred in a care home, and one occurred in an "other communal establishment".

According to the Office for National Statistics' data, the total number of people who have died with Coronavirus in the Moorlands since the start of the pandemic has now reached 100.

Of the 100 Moorlands deaths, 75 have taken place in hospitals, 17 have occurred in care homes, three have occurred at home, with three at other communal establishments, one in a hospice, and one elsewhere.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Moorlands has now recorded a total of 2,374 cases as of yesterday (Monday).

This represents an increase of 629 Moorlands cases compared to the 1,745 cases recorded in Biddulph Nub News's previous update two weeks ago.

In Staffordshire as a whole (excluding Stoke-on-Trent) there have been a total of 23,207 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic.

That is an increase of 6,315 compared to the total number of cases recorded two weeks ago.

The Moorlands, and indeed the whole of Staffordshire including Stoke-on-Trent, is currently in tier two - or the "High" tier - of the three-tier system of local restrictions.

However, these measures have been temporarily put on hold as the lockdown has brought in a range of tougher restrictions.
