An upcoming meeting of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council which will include a decision on Aldi's application to build a new supermarket in Biddulph has been pushed back, a council spokesperson has said.

Biddulph Nub News reported previously how the final decision on planning permission for the supermarket was to be made at a meeting of the district council's Planning Committee, scheduled for Thursday, 15th October.

However, there is currently no meeting scheduled for this date on the authority's monthly meetings calendar.

Biddulph Nub News asked the council whether the meeting was still due to take place on this date, with a spokesperson stating that it has now been pushed back by one week, until Thursday, 22nd October.

They said: "The meeting has been rescheduled for 22 October."

Although a Planning Committee meeting on this date has also not yet been added to the monthly meetings calendar.

Ahead of the final decision by the district council, Biddulph Town Councillors recommended the application for approval, subject to a range of concerns.

A section of a later town council meeting which included discussions about the Aldi plans was then due to be held in private, but then took place in public after councillors aimed to keep the matter transparent for the public.

Aldi submitted an application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council in June to build a new store on the site of the former Meadows Special School off Tunstall Road.

The school was destroyed in a fire in 2004, and was later relocated to Leek.
