Biddulph town councillors are to discuss the Aldi planning application again at a meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.

The discussion will take place at a meeting of the council's Planning Committee via Zoom, which is due to begin at 5.30pm and will be broadcast live on Facebook.

However, the agenda item relating to the Aldi discussions has been marked as confidential, meaning the discussion will be held in private, and members of the public and press will not be able to watch.

The confidential discussion is the last item on the meeting's agenda, and is entitled: "Discussion about Aldi planning application feedback and approval of a way forward to address remaining issues."

Biddulph Nub News reported previously how Biddulph Town Councillors had recommended the application for approval, subject to a range of concerns.

Councillors raised concerns relating to matters such as access, the aesthetics of the building, and potential disruption to the neighbouring James Bateman Middle School.

However, councillors supported the application overall, feeling that it was "a necessary development" for the town.

The final decision on the application will be made by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's Planning Committee at a meeting on Thursday, 15th October.

The German supermarket giant submitted an application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council in June to build a new store on the site of the former Meadows Special School off Tunstall Road.

The school was destroyed in a fire in 2004, and was later relocated to Leek.
