Elections 2021: Biddulph Labour candidate Jill Salt explains why you should vote for her

By Jack Lenton 29th Apr 2021

It's election time, and candidates all over the country are battling for the public's votes ahead of the big day on May 6th.

This also goes for Biddulph, where two seats at Staffordshire County Council are up for grabs - one in Biddulph North, and one in Biddulph South and Endon.

With the election getting closer by the day, we got in touch with all six Biddulph candidates to ask them to briefly explain in their own words why they think they deserve your vote.

Over the next few days, we will be posting their responses so you can read what they had to say and make your decision.

Next it's the turn of Jill Salt, who is standing in Biddulph South and Endon for The Labour Party.

Jill is a town and district councillor representing the Biddulph East ward, and works as a teacher at Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College.

She said: "I would be honoured to serve the people of Biddulph at the County.

"I am passionate about our area and have been a community volunteer in various guises since the age of seven, that started with tree planting with my Brownie group at Biddulph Grange Country Park.

"I am acutely aware of the issues worrying people and the factors that have an impact on their lives, because I live here and I am proud to be an active member of the community.

"I am available and visible; I am easily contacted via traditional means or via the use of technology.

"I do not shy away from debate or nod in the right places during meetings at Biddulph Town Council or the District, I challenge and put forth ideas and amendments.

"If elected I intend on continuing to do this in Stafford, raising Biddulph's profile and lobbying to ensure that Biddulph gets a fair deal and Staffordshire is a county that works for everyone.

"I pledge to make climate change a priority, to hold failing council contractors to account, scrutinise the Integrated Care System that is in development, make sure the County reinvests in youth services and bring SEN children's service up to standard - the most recent Ofsted report is damning.

"I will work hard and work for you."
