A former Biddulph mayor is now heading home after completing a long convoy drive to deliver aid to Ukraine - but there are plans to do it all over again!
Nub News reported recently how Chris Wood, who was Biddulph's mayor in 2017 and is also an ex-fireman, was in a convoy of donated fire engines and thousands of pieces of equipment on a three-day journey to Ukraine.
The 22 vehicles, which are made up of fire engines and trucks full of equipment, have been donated by fire services all over the country and have now been handed over to Ukraine after the convoy reached the border.
The convoy made their way down to Kent before setting off on Saturday morning and crossing the English Channel, then driving through France, Germany and Poland throughout the weekend and finally reaching the Ukraine border last night.
The fire engines were then handed over and the Ukrainian firefighters were given training on how to use the new equipment.
In an update to Nub News today, Chris added that he was delighted with how the journey had gone, and that planning had already begun to arrange another convoy.
He said: "This morning was the final morning with the local fire crews.
"It's been an amazing project and everyone is delighted that we have helped to ease the suffering of the people of Ukraine. We will start planning convoy two on our return.
"We leave with mixed emotions but the firefighters know our thoughts and prayers are with them and the people of Ukraine."
