Senior Fire Officers are reminding drivers to stay sensible on the roads when faced with flood water after fire crews received multiple calls reporting flood incidences across the county.

Between 8pm on Wednesday and 5:30am on Thursday Staffordshire Fire and Rescue responded to 14 separate calls related to flooding across the county.

There were many reports of drivers marooned in flood water. One incident saw crews from Uttoxeter, Cheadle and Newcastle, as well as the water rescue team, attend St Michael's Road, Stramshall following a report of three cars becoming trapped shortly before 5:30am on Thursday morning. Three drivers were rescued.

Properties all over the county were impacted by flood water, as well as a care home in Coppenhall – where one ground floor resident was evacuated by a crew from Rising Brook.

Deputy Chief Fire Office, Rob Barber said, "Storm Christoph has brought some challenging weather to our county and we are reminding people to stay sensible when out and about.

"Please don't drive through flood water as it can put you and others in danger, as well as causing severe damage to your vehicle.

"Demand is high but our crews are well trained in dealing with the flooding fall-out. They will continue to do all they can to keep you safe."
