Knypersley Cricket Club has thanked the people of Biddulph for their "fantastic" generosity after the club achieved its fundraising target with a huge 54 days to spare.
Biddulph Nub News reported a week ago how the club was aiming to raise £10,000 after facing difficulties during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The cricket club said it had been "hit dramatically" by the pandemic, and turned to crowdfunding to allow them to make vital repairs and maintenance at the club.
The club gave itself 10 weeks - until 17th March - to reach its £10,000 target. If the target was reached in this time, Sport England would double the funds raised to £20,000.
And amazingly, that £10,000 target has already been reached by the club, with over 8 weeks still remaining until that March deadline, meaning that extra £10,000 will indeed be provided by Sport England.
A spokesperson for the cricket club said: "We've reached our target - thanks for your generosity!
"We can now keep going, unfortunately we can't match fund anything past our target but we can still receive pledges for Knypersley Cricket Club.
"The success has been fantastic and is thanks to you – so let's keep going, 54 days left!"
Among other things, the funds will be used to:
- Get a new pitch mower at a cost of over £5,000
- Carry out maintenance to outdoor nets at a cost of approximately £3,000
- Carry out building maintenance including the Victorian pavilion at a cost of around £2,000
The fundraiser will still remain live until the March deadline and is already blazing past its initial target, with £11,310 now being raised at the time of writing.
