Young bikers from across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are getting the chance to attend a free workshop to help promote safer riding on the county's roads.

Riders aged 15 to 21 are also being offered a £50 voucher off the cost of their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course if they do the workshop.

The Pre-CBT workshops are being co-ordinated by the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) who are responsible for road safety in the county and Stoke-on-Trent. The sessions are free and provide advice on safer riding, rules of the road and an overview of the Highway Code.

Workshops will be held at Stafford Business Innovation Centre, Beaconside on Thursday 27 May and at Stoke Sea Cadets Centre in Hanley on Wednesday 9 June from 6.30pm to 9pm. New riders and those doing a retest are eligible if they live, work or are educated in Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent.

Speaking on behalf of the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership, David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council said: "We continue to have some of the safest roads in the country, which is something we're proud of and something the partnership has worked hard to achieve.

"Helping improve biker safety remains a priority and over the last ten years we have seen a reduction in motorcycle casualties on our roads. Initiatives like our Ride it Right routes, Bike Sense courses, Pre-CBT workshop, Biker Breakfast and Young Biker BBQ events are all helping us to keep bikers safer.

"We do know that young bikers are particularly vulnerable and at risk on the roads and our workshops will not only give them the extra knowledge and skills to keep them safe but they'll save money on the cost of their CBT course too. I'd encourage anyone learning to ride to take advantage of the workshop and the £50 voucher."

Places are limited and can be booked by emailing [email protected] or by calling 07855336922. The CBT course must be undertaken with one of the registered training schools.
