An innovative new self-service milkshake shop has opened in Biddulph Moor, run by a local teenager.

17-year-old Jessica Bailey runs Shakes on the Rocks, which is located at Wickenstone Farm on New Street.

Jessica launched the shop with the aim of diversifying the business of her family's farm and customers are already flocking to try the new local business's milk and milkshakes.

Since the shop is almost completely automatic it can have long opening hours and is open from 7am - 11pm, seven days a week.

It runs out of an adapted shipping container, and Jessica says it's the first milk vending machine in the whole of Staffordshire.

We spoke to Jessica more about her exciting new business venture.

She said: "We've been open since Good Friday - we wanted to try and provide more money for the farm, and it's unique as there aren't any milk vending machines in Staffordshire yet!"

Discussing the range of products on offer at the shop, she continued: "We offer normal milk, either half a litre or one litre, and milkshakes either half a litre or one litre. We offer strawberry, chocolate and banana and a weekly special - this weeks special is salted caramel! We also sell reusable litre glass bottles for £2, and have a coffee machine that sells a range of coffees and other hot drinks like hot chocolates."

We asked Jessica how the shop's automatic system worked and how much human input was required to keep it running. She explained: "The shop runs itself, it is all self service, and there are instructions to tell you what to do. We have to come up every few hours to restock and check the machines, but the machine even cleans itself! There are two phone numbers that people can call if they have any issues."

Discussing how business has been going so far and encouraging people to visit she added: "Business has been going really well so far, there has been a constant flow of people visiting and people coming to visit us more than once!

"People should come and give us a try as the milk is fresh from the farm and tastes delicious. There are great views, and people are supporting a small local business."

If you would like to visit, the shop's address is Wickenstone Farm, 129 New Street, Biddulph Moor, ST8 7NW.
