Staffordshire Police have asked members of the public to have their say on their use of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology in the county.

Biddulph Nub News reported previously how more than a dozen cameras which quickly read registration plates are set to be installed in Staffordshire Police's patrol cars.

Staffordshire Police currently utilises 64 fixed ANPR devices which cover 109 lanes of traffic around the county.

In addition, a number of the force's Road Policing Unit's marked and unmarked cars use ANPR cameras and software.

Now 14 more patrol vehicles are set to be kitted out with ANPR technology while the force will also take delivery of two more 'mobile' devices which officers can install in different locations.

Now members of the public have been asked to share their thoughts on the technology.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We want your thoughts around the use of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) in Staffordshire.

"ANPR technology is commonly used to alert officers to stolen vehicles, vehicles that have been involved in crime or to help locate missing people.

"The data they collect can also be used in investigations. You can shape how we use it. Get involved by completing this survey."
