It has now been almost two months since the Homes for Ukraine scheme launched on March 18th.

The scheme allows those fleeing the war in Ukraine to come to the UK if a British citizen has volunteered to provide them with accommodation.

Along with the Ukraine Family Scheme, which allows Ukrainians to join family members who are already living in the UK, over 95,000 visas have now been issued nationally according to the latest figures from May 5th.

And over 37,000 Ukrainians have arrived in the UK so far, with thousands more waiting for their visas to be processed before they can come to the country.

But how many visas have been issued in the Homes for Ukraine scheme in our local area?

The latest figures show that so far in the Moorlands, 40 visas have been issued as part of the Homes for Ukraine scheme, meaning 40 local households have volunteered to provide accommodation for Ukrainian refugees.

That figure is the sixth highest out of all nine districts in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, and it is also bearing in mind that, at only around 100,000, the Moorlands also has the second lowest population of the Staffordshire Districts, with only Tamworth having fewer residents.

Lichfield have been issued the most visas with 95, followed by Stafford with 90. The least visas have been issued to Tamworth, with only 25.
