A well-known Biddulph shoe shop is to close after its owner, who was also a well-known local councillor and volunteer, passed away.

The Brammers shoe shop on Station Road, which has served the community of Biddulph for decades, is to close after Cllr Hilda Sheldon MBE sadly died earlier this year.

Cllr Sheldon was well known for running Brammers as well as being a Biddulph town and Staffordshire Moorlands district councillor, and Biddulph in Bloom volunteer.

The shop has now announced that it is to close following her passing back in June.

A closing date for the shop has not yet been announced, however a sale is being held to sell the remaining stock ahead of the closure.

A spokesperson for Brammers said today (Monday 1st August): "Due to a family bereavement we have decided to retire.

"We are holding a retirement sale and all stock will be sold with 50% off from Monday 1st August 2022."

People have since thanked the business for their many years in the town.

One resident commented: "Totally understandable at this very sad time. Time to look after yourselves and enjoy life now. Thank you for everything."

Another added: "An iconic part of our town, but understandable. Thank you for your service over all the years and best wishes for your retirement."

While a third said: "You will be sadly missed. A dependable, friendly service for my kids' school shoes for years."
