A local councillor has called for a Biddulph youth football group to be renamed following England's win in the Women's Euros at the weekend.
The Biddulph LadsanDads is a junior football league comprised of several local youth teams from North Staffordshire.
Now the group, which was first formed in 1967, have been asked to consider renaming themselves to be more inclusive to girls.
The request has been made today (Monday 1st August) by Biddulph town and district Cllr Jill Salt after England's Lionesses triumphed against Germany yesterday to win the Women's Euros.
In an email to LadsanDads, she said: "Given that the Lionesses have just won the Euros, is it about time Biddulph moved on from the outdated term 'LadsanDads'?
"Might I request that in celebration of their win and to mark the historic occasion, the branch considers renaming to move with the modern era of football in the UK?"
Biddulph LadsanDads chairman Andy Boulton told Nub News that girls did take part in the league, but it was called LadsanDads because that was what it had originally been named when it was first created back in the 1960s.
He added that he had not yet seen the email, but that he would have a look and consider it.
He said: "LadsanDads was set up over first set up over 50 years ago and that's just what the guy who set it up decided to call it, it's like a name brand.
"Girls do take part though - it's open for everybody to join in.
"I haven't seen anything about renaming yet and I've never really thought about it, but I will have a look."
