Man who stole from Biddulph oatcake shop agrees to pay money back after police interview
A man who stole money from an iconic oatcake shop in Biddulph town centre has agreed to pay back what was taken after being interviewed by police.
Officers at Staffordshire Police received a report on Thursday last week (11th August) of a theft at Povey's Oatcakes on Biddulph High street.
After interviewing a suspect, a man, who has not been named by the police, received a caution which included the condition that he would have to pay back the money that was stolen.
Alex Povey, who runs the traditional Biddulph oatcake shop, told Nub News: "All of the family and staff were shocked about what happened."
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "On Thursday (11 August) police received a report of a theft at a business on High St, Biddulph.
"A male suspect was identified. He has been voluntary interviewed.
"He admitted the offence and was issued with a conditional caution, whereby he will have to pay the money taken, back to the victim.
"The victim has been fully updated and is happy with this outcome."
Povey's Oatcakes is one of Biddulph's most loved businesses and have been selling the traditional local food in Staffordshire for over 25 years.
Alex took over the business aged just 23 and they serve to a loyal base of customers from far and wide.
