Moorlands MP Karen Bradley has come out in support of one of the candidates in the race to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.

The local MP is backing Tom Tugendhat in his bid for the top job following Boris Johnson's resignation.

Mr Tugendhat has been tweeting his thanks to those MPs that have backed him so far over the last several days.

He tweeted yesterday: "Another four colleagues join our team. We are going to unite this country."

The tweet was in reference to MPs Karen Bradley, Anne Marie Morris, Nickie Aitken and Damien Moore supporting his leadership bid.

Mrs Bradley said: "We need a clean start. Only Tom Tugendhat can deliver that.

"He will bring integrity back into our politics, deliver for all parts of the UK and maximise the Brexit dividend."

Mr Tugendhat has been the MP for Tonbridge and Malling since 2015.

Before entering politics, he worked as a journalist and as a public relations consultant in the Middle East. He also had a part-time role as an officer in the Territorial Army, and served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We reported previously how Mrs Bradley joined the voices calling for Boris Johnson to resign, saying that the PM "is not a fit person to lead this great country".

In a statement she urged Johnson to "do the right and decent thing and resign" following the Chris Pincher groping allegations, days after saying that that instances of sexual misconduct are damaging the reputation of the Tory party.
