Moorlands police have issued a warning after noticing "increasingly large" numbers of children cooling off in the hot weather by playing in local bodies of water.

Police say that playing in pools of water at local beauty spots can be "extremely dangerous", and have asked parents to make their children aware of the dangers.

PCSO Sara Staples, of Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team, said: "Now that the warm weather seems to have arrived we are seeing increasingly large numbers of children playing in and around pools of water in the local beauty spots.

"We understand that the cool water is a welcome distraction on a hot sunny day but this is also extremely dangerous.

"Please make sure that your children are aware of the dangers that this can lead to so that they can enjoy the summer safely."
