More Biddulph students will have to spend the first part of their summer holidays self isolating following the latest Covid case at a school in the town.

A chunk of the Year 6 pupils at Woodhouse Academy are the latest to be told to isolate after a Covid case was confirmed in their year.

It's the latest of many Covid cases and instances of self isolating pupils in Biddulph, with Biddulph Nub News reporting last week how Year 10 students at Biddulph High School were also told to begin their summer holidays by self isolating.

Also last week we reported how Year 7 pupils at Woodhouse Academy were told to self isolate until 17th July after a positive case was recorded.

Following the latest case being recorded, Woodhouse Academy Principal Principal Deborah Farr said: "We have been advised as a school that there has been another confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school in year six.

"We have followed the national guidance, contacted the local outbreak team, and have identified that your child has been in contact with the affected individual.

"In line with the national guidance, we have been advised to ask certain pupils to isolate. This is not a decision made by the school but by the Government and local authority. The school has no control over this and we ask parents to be understanding.

"We have been advised that the isolation period will begin on Thursday, July 15 and end at 11.59pm on Saturday, July 24.

"We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community."

Last week it was reported that there were a record number of school pupils currently self isolating around the country - more than 800,000 did not attend state school in England due to Covid-linked absence.

That equates to around 11% of all state school pupils in England.

However, school bubbles are soon coming to an end in England, meaning pupils will only need to self-isolate if they test positive from 16 August.
