A Biddulph school has been granted planning permission to build a new classroom on its site.

In a planning application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Woodhouse Academy sought permission for "installation of a modular single storey single classroom stand alone block" at the school.

Biddulph Nub News previously reported how the application was submitted back in September.

The building will be located within the school grounds, and built partially on the footprint of a previously demolished building.

It has been designed to accommodate approximately 30 pupils and two teaching staff, and will also include a lobby and electricity cupboard.

A design and access statement submitted for the application by Box Architects reads: "The new building is to be a single storey unit made up of two modules and clad in a vertical insulated panelised system colour to be confirmed. Doors are to be dark grey PPC aluminium, the glazing is to be double glaze, and windows are to be uPVC top hung casements in white."

A report by the district council's planning officers said the plans justified the classroom's development, despite it being in the Green Belt, due to the existence of "very special circumstances".

It said: "The combination of circumstances discussed in the report give rise to very special circumstances to justify the development in principle in the Green Belt.

"The relative small size of the structure and that it would be set against and partly amongst the existing school buildings, largely out of site from public view, and given the colour stipulation to further help assimilate the building in its group, the scheme can be recommended for approval as acceptable in terms of character and appearance of the area including heritage considerations as discussed in the report."

A planning decision notice published by the council's officers confirmed that the application has now been approved.
