The new mayor and deputy mayor for 2022 - 2023 have been announced in Biddulph.

The switchover was performed at the annual mayor making ceremony at Biddulph town hall yesterday (Tuesday 10th May).

Having completed her year in the role, the previous mayor, Cllr Sylvia Rushton, was replaced for this year by Cllr Jim Garvey.

Having been deputy mayor last year, Cllr Garvey continues the tradition of last year's deputy mayor becoming the mayor the following year.

Meanwhile, Cllr Chris Perkin was chosen as this year's deputy mayor.

A spokesperson for Biddulph Town Council said: "Councillor Jim Garvey and Mrs Sue Garvey will be the Mayor and Mayoress this year.

"Councillor Chris Perkin and Harriet will be the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress in 2022-23. We're particularly delighted that Harriet (aged 9) is joining our Town Council team this year!"

We reported recently how an afternoon tea was recently held to mark Cllr Rushton coming to the end of her time as mayor.

We also reported how Cllr Rushton recently completed a hair-raising indoor skydive to raise money for the mayor's charities.

Councillor Chris Perkin and Harriet will be the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress in 2022-23.
