Police have issued an appeal after a suspicious man was spotted knocking on residents' doors in Biddulph.

The man claimed he was supposed to be reading meters, but gas and electricity companies were not able to verify this.

Now Staffordshire Police's Biddulph PCSO Laura Peacock has asked people to get in touch if they notice anything suspicious.

She said: "A report has been made by a concerned resident about a male that has knocked on at an address claiming to be reading meters.

"This has been checked by the Gas and Electric company and they state they have not sent anyone out.

"This is the second attempt the male has tried to gain entry to this property.

"The male is described as late 50's, short grey hair and wearing a grey uniform with a logo stating 'meter readings'.

"The male didn't knock on any other addresses in the area.

"After refusing entry to the male, he got back into his vehicle a dark grey Ford Mondeo- no VRM.

"Please be vigilant when unknown persons knock at your address, check their ID and if unsure close the door.

"Please contact Staffordshire Police on 101 if you notice anything suspicious."
