Police have confirmed they are investigating after receiving reports of food "laced with some sort of pellets" being left at a village green in Biddulph.

The packages were spotted on Friday in the Newpool Meadows area, with dog owners being warned to stay aware and bag the pellets for the police if they happened to spot any.

We reported on Monday how the volunteers who manage the green reported the pellets to local police.

Now police have confirmed to Biddulph Nub News that their reports have been received, and asked dog owners to stay vigilant.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We received reports on January 22nd of pellets being found in food items left on green space off Tunstall Road in Knypersley."

PCSO Stephen Sherratt, of Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team, said: "The area is popular with dog walkers and is home to wildlife.

"While enquiries are continuing to establish what the pellets are and why they were reportedly left in the area we would ask dog owners to be vigilant and look to see what their pet may be attempting to eat."

Anyone with any information should message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 0553 of January 22nd, call 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
