Staffordshire Police have warned caravan owners to be vigilant after several thefts were reported in the Moorlands.

Officers have asked local residents to ensure their caravans are kept safe and secure.

They have also released several tips on how people can protect their caravans from theft.

Moorlands PCSO Ashley Goodwin said: "Please be aware that we have recently had a number of caravan thefts within the Staffordshire Moorlands area. See below some top tips to keep your caravan safe and secure."

  • Have plenty of lights and, ideally, CCTV, covering the vehicle.
  • Keep your keys in a safe and secure place.
  • Make sure fobs are kept away from the vehicle. If possible, store them in a key-shielding pouch so the signal can't be copied.
  • Put a barrier in the way such as a sturdy, high quality post.
  • Fit a Sold Secure wheel clamp.
  • Fit an approved tracker. These should be Thatcham Quality 6 approved. This may not prevent your vehicle from being stolen but it will significantly help in recovering the vehicle.
  • Use locks and clamps that meet the Sold Secure security standard or the Police's Secured By Design accreditation.

She added: "Any suspicious activity should be reported to Staffordshire Police via 101 or in an emergency 999. You can also contact us via Facebook and Twitter for non-urgent matters."
