A Biddulph woman who had her shopping paid for her by a mystery good Samaritan has asked the kind stranger to contact her so she can return the favour.

Local resident Lilian Duffy explained that she was shopping in Biddulph's branch of Sainsbury's, and the lady in front of her at the checkouts if she could go first as she was in a rush to catch her bus.

The woman not only agreed, but also offered to pay for her shopping so she could leave sooner and have a better chance of catching her bus.

Lilian is now hoping to find the woman so she can pay her back after her lovely act of kindness.

She said: "I was in Sainsbury's today at the kiosk, I asked the lady in front of me if I could please go first, as I will miss my bus.

"The truly lovely lady took my shopping and asked the cashier to scan the items, then passed me my shopping and told me to dash for my bus.

"I told her I couldn't let her pay for my shopping, but she insisted I go for my bus.

"I would really like to pay this lovely lady her money back, so please lovely lady if you read this, please contact me so I can repay you for your loving kindness."

The post has since had a hugely positive response on social media, receiving over 400 likes and comments.

Residents have commented to praise the mystery woman for her act of kindness.

One said: "This is the kindest most lovely thing I've heard in a long, long time. It's great to hear that there are still some amazing people out there."

Another added: "That lovely kind lady will have received a reward just by her act of kindness, because giving is rewarding in itself. It's heart-warming to hear that there are some lovely people about."

While a third commented: "I was there at the same time - I let you go in front of me so you could catch the bus. The lady in front of me put your shopping on her bill. What a lovely thing to do and what a special, kind and caring lady."
