Shoppers at Biddulph's Sainsbury's may now have to visit the store alone after the supermarket altered its guidance on shopping during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The supermarket has reintroduced its measure asking people to only send one adult per household at a time to do their shopping.

The change was made in an effort to curb the number of people browsing each aisle at any one time.

Sainsbury's issued the guidance in an update posted to its website.

It said: "We are asking everyone to only send one adult per household to our shops where possible.

"This helps us keep people a safe distance apart and also helps to reduce queues to get into stores.

"Our store teams will be asking groups with more than one adult to choose one adult to shop and will ask other adults to wait. Children are welcome if they are not able to stay at home."

The move comes after the Government introduced its three-tier lockdown system across the country, which imposes varying degrees of restrictions on different areas of the nation based on their infection rates.

As the pandemic has continued, supermarkets have had to continually alter their guidance around shopping in their stores.

Other measures introduced have included asking shoppers to wear masks, maintain social distancing, use hand sanitiser and pay by card rather than with cash.

Sainsbury's will continue to give priority shopping to NHS workers from 7.30am - 8am on Mondays to Saturdays, while the elderly, vulnerable and disabled have priority shopping from 8am - 9am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
