Biddulph Fish Bar offering free meals to hungry kids during campaign to end holiday hunger

By Jack Lenton 26th Oct 2020

Biddulph Fish Bar is offering free meals to kids during the holidays as the national campaign to end child food poverty continues.

The King Street chippy has joined many eateries across the country who have recently offered free food to kids in need who's parents may be struggling to feed them.

If children are struggling to find a meal, the fish bar has said they are welcome to drop in and take a kid's meal free of charge.

A staff member at the fish bar told Biddulph Nub News: "All the kids who's parents might not be able to afford to feed them are welcome to come.

"They can come and have a kids meal for free - things like chicken nuggets, burgers and chips."

Biddulph Nub News reported recently how a motion to extend free schools meals over the school holidays was voted down by MPs.

Moorlands MP Karen Bradley was one of 322 MPs to vote against the motion backed by England and Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford, who's campaign to end child food poverty recently saw him awarded with an MBE.

Since then, communities around the country have rallied together in a bid to ensure no child goes hungry during the holidays, with many local councils also backing the pledge to feed disadvantaged kids.

Biddulph Nub News reported how Staffordshire County Council is promising a £15 voucher to the families of up to 18,000 children, which can be used in major supermarkets on food or essential supplies for October half term.

Biddulph Town Council has also contacted local schools with information on how children and parents can access food in the town.

Food banks can be accessed at St John's Church on Mondays and Our Lady of Grace Church on Thursdays.

Biddulph Youth and Community Zone offers fruit and veg boxes on Wednesdays, a community pantry on Thursdays and also 'free food Fridays'.

And the Green Tree House Craft Café is running a community food club on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
