Damage caused by Storm Eunice in Biddulph was rectified after a fallen tree caused a power cut to affect dozens of homes in the town, the county council has confirmed.

Nub News reported previously how homes in the Hurst Road area experienced a power cut after the gale brought down a tree on Friday, which landed on power lines providing electricity to homes on the road.

Staffordshire County Council's highways crews were brought in to rectify the damage, and the council has now reported that the issue has been resolved.

A spokesperson for the county council said: "Highways crews have been working around the clock to keep the county moving, as the effects of Storm Eunice are felt across Staffordshire.

"Storm Eunice brought rain, snow and winds of 70mph across the county, creating widespread disruption.

"Highways crews worked throughout the evening and into the night to clear away debris from fallen trees and address flooding issues. Overall, 53 emergency calls were received by crews.

"Although impacts were felt across the county, the north was particularly affected. In one incident in Fold Lane, Biddulph, a fallen tree caused power outages to surrounding properties. The tree has since been removed and power restored.

"Crews will remain on high alert, as further wind, heavy rain and snow are forecast over the weekend."

David Williams, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways added: "Yesterday saw some really difficult conditions across the county, with winds of up to 70mph, rain and even snow appearing on higher ground.

"We had 53 reports of fallen trees and other debris, plus a further 5 for flooding incidents. Our highways crews have been working flat out in extreme conditions to clear roads and keep them open.

"The storm looks to have calmed down, but our crews will still be out and about today attending to continue the clear-up. I would advise anyone who is out and about today to still take extra care, and bear with us while we work to clear any remaining debris."
