Thousands of households in the Staffordshire Moorlands are still waiting to receive their £150 council tax rebate over two months after payments began to be dished out in April.

It comes following the government announcement that households in council tax bands A to D will receive a £150 council tax rebate to help with the cost of living crisis.

The announcement meant that around 4 in 5 households in England were eligible receive the grant, which does not have to repaid.

Discretionary payments of £150 can also be made to households in council bands E to H who meet certain criteria.

However, thousands of households in the Moorlands are still waiting to receive their rebate, although Staffordshire Moorlands District Council says it is currently working to resolve this.

So far, the district council has paid out energy rebates to 30,969 Moorlands households, which is 87% of all eligible households in the district. These payments have totalled £4,645,350.

This leaves 13% of eligible households - a total of over 4,600, still waiting to receive their £150.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Moorlands District Council said: "So far we have paid 30,969 energy rebate payments totalling £4,645,350 which is 87% of those eligible.

"We're also working on the discretionary scheme and will publish details on our website as soon as this is available."

The council told the Local Democracy Reporting Service back in April that eligible households who did not pay for their council tax by direct debit had been invited to apply for the rebate via the council's website.

They said: "Around 27,940 households in Moorlands will be eligible for the £150 payment in April due to already having direct debits set up to pay their council tax bills.

"We are aiming to make these payments towards the end of April.

"There are approximately a further 7,640 households who do not pay by direct debit but that are eligible for the payment because they are in council tax bands A to D.

"As we don't have banking information to make payments directly to these households we will be inviting them to apply for the rebate via the council's website in May.

"Anyone eligible who does not apply or does not receive the payment via direct debit, will have their council tax bill credited with £150 in June."
