Staffordshire Police are launching a new operation today (Tuesday) with the aim of preventing increases in road casualties as more people return to work and the darker nights draw in.

Operation Lightning hopes to tackle criminals' use of the roads, and will include a focus on the 'fatal four' motoring offences that are major causes of death and serious injury on the roads - speeding, mobile phone use, drink and drug use and not wearing a seatbelt.

Groups and communities across the UK are gearing up for the Great British September Clean - and Moorlanders have been urged to get involved.

Keep Britain Tidy usually runs its big Spring Clean in March and around 680,000 volunteers had signed up to take part but, as with so many other things, Covid-19 meant that it couldn't go ahead, so it's taking place next month instead.
