Staffordshire Police are launching a new operation today (Tuesday) with the aim of preventing increases in road casualties as more people return to work and the darker nights draw in.

Operation Lightning hopes to tackle criminals' use of the roads, and will include a focus on the 'fatal four' motoring offences that are major causes of death and serious injury on the roads - speeding, mobile phone use, drink and drug use and not wearing a seatbelt.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has condemned cyclists and motor bikers for riding on a local Site of Biological Importance.

Mountain and motor bikers using a biologically important Moorlands nature reserve for recreation are risking damaging the site, the district council has warned.
