Congratulations to the Green Tree House Food Club and Tea Rom in Biddulph, who have been awarded a grant of £1,500 by Leek United Building Society!

The local community café, which is based on the High Street, is one of the causes to benefit from the building society's first round of grants from its charitable donation.

A spokesperson for the Green Tree House said: "A big thank you to Leek United Building Society for the funding grant!"

The grant will help to enable the café to set up a new pop-up larder in Leek.

The café offers a wide range of food and essential items for its members to pick up each week for better value than the supermarkets.

Another local cause to receive a grant was the Biddulph foodbank, with the money being used to provide vegetable steamers to 20 local families.

A spokesperson for Leek United Building Society said: "Leek United Building Society Charitable Foundation was founded in 2021 to support local schemes and good causes across Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Shropshire.

"The Foundation's primary purpose is to provide grants and donations that will have a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged or vulnerable people in our communities."

Organisations can apply for a maximum grant of £5,000 and trustees meet every three months to discuss new applications.
