Dog owners in Biddulph have warned other pet owners of a quantity of spilled fuel that has made their pets unwell while walking them down a popular local route.

There is reportedly a strong-smelling fuel present in ditches at the sides of the Biddulph Valley Way.

Residents have reported that the fuel can be found near the Whitemore area of the local walking and cycling route.

One dog owner said she had to take her two dogs to the vets after walking through the liquid made them "unwell with sick and the shakes".

They also said that the smell of the fuel persisted on the dogs even after multiple washes.

Georgie Sinclair said: "Please be careful walking your doggies on the Biddulph Valley Way (by Whitemore).

"Just had a trip to the vet with two of mine.

"There is some sort of fuel in the ditches which my dogs have walked through and has made them quite unwell with sick and the shakes.

"Even washing them multiple times I can't get the smell out - don't want other dogs to ingest this!"

Local resident Chris Booth also smelled the fuel on the route, adding: "I smelt it yesterday, smells very strongly of diesel.

"It's in the area where the steps go up both sides, on Biddulph side of where the land slip was, in the muddy water."

Incidents such as polluting fuel spillages can be reported to the environment agency by calling their incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.
