The café in Biddulph's branch of Sainsbury's has now closed after the supermarket giant announced the closure of around 200 of its in-store cafés around the country.

The move is set to put around 2,000 jobs at risk, with Sainsbury's also announcing plans to close 34 of its less popular hot food counters.

A sign has now been put up inside the Biddulph supermarket which reads: "This café is closing permanently on 22 April.

"We're working hard to serve you even better. So, we're transforming our eat-in, takeaway and home delivery food and drink services.

"The help us improve, we're permanently closing down this café on 22 April. Your nearest café is in Sainsbury's Leek."

Sainsbury's previously released a list of all of the cafés that were due to remain open - a total of 64 around the country.

The café in the Leek branch of Sainsbury's are due to remain open, however the Biddulph café was not on the list meaning it is now due to close.

The closures have come as part of new plans aimed at updating the eat-in, takeaway and home delivery selections for customers.

Sainsbury's says it is hoping to open 30 new "food halls" in 2022, as well as 30 Starbucks coffee shops within supermarkets.
