Biddulph residents were given a shock yesterday (Sunday) after what appeared to be a giant hand grenade was spotted flying over the town.
The grenade could be seen hovering over the town of Biddulph, as well as surrounding areas like Biddulph Moor and Mow Cop.
On closer inspection, the 'grenade' actually emerged to be an oddly-shaped hot air balloon.
But why did the balloon fly over Biddulph this weekend?
It turns out all that hot air was drumming up publicity for a sports nutrition company called - funnily enough - Grenade.
It was built by the inflatable marketing company Bloon, which describes the grenade balloon as "the first of its shape with a size of 105,000 cubit feet".
It adds: "Because of all its complex air pockets and design the balloon should be very heavy, with the use of light weight polyester we have been able to achieve a light weight shape of its size with the same strength and durability as normal polyester.
"As balloons go there have been some odd shapes that have been made. Throughout the years the world of special shapes have slowed down, that was until we were contacted by Grenade.
Bloon was chosen by Grenade to design, build and operate a balloon that is out the ordinary and will have heads turning where ever it is tethered or flown."
Those who spotted the balloon flying over the area were encouraged to share their photos on social media to be in with a chance to win free products from the company.
Local residents were quick to share their thoughts on social media after spotting the balloon, with one joking: "It looks like China has downgraded its weapons!"
Another quipped: "It's a pity for the one who has to climb out and pull the pin!"
