Biddulph Nub News reported yesterday how more than 90,000 Coronavirus vaccinations have been carried out across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire so far.

But how does Staffordshire's vaccination rollout compare to other areas around the country?

The latest NHS England figures show 92,356 injections have now been administered as the Government ramps up the roll out.

That includes 37,001 first doses for the 80-plus age group, while 43,014 were given to vulnerable people or frontline workers.

A further 12,341 people have already had their second jab.

It represents 60.8 per cent of all over-80s or 8.8 per cent of over-18s in the city and county.

This is just above the average when compared to other NHS areas in England.

Gloucestershire is in first spot having vaccinated 85.3 per cent of over-80s, while Suffolk and North East Sussex is lagging behind with just 36 per cent.

Nationally, nearly five million people have now received the first vaccine and a further 464,000 have also had their second dose.

NHS England say the figures may be changed retrospectively as more data flows in from local health authorities and more jab sites open.

Locally, a new mass vaccination site is set to open in Tunstall on Monday (January 25).

Patients have already been attending appointments at locations across the county for several weeks now, with vaccinations being given at Biddulph Town Hall.

Local health campaigner Ian Syme welcomed the vaccine rollout.

He said: "Proportionally it looks as though we are doing better than England, with a vaccination rate close to nine per cent of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent population.

"We're also doing better on second doses as well, which is a positive. However we do have less of the over 80s due to low life expectancy rates in Stoke-on-Trent, compared with average rates in Staffordshire and England.

"But in general it would seem that Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent's vaccination administrators, in comparison to the whole of England, are doing a really good job."

Posting to their social media channels, the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent CCG wrote: "92,356 vaccines have been delivered locally so far.

"This means that over 80,000 people have received their first dose.

"We're prioritising the most at risk, 60 per cent of over 80s locally have been vaccinated. Please don't contact the NHS to seek a vaccine, we will contact you."
