Police have warned Biddulph residents to stay alert after a man in a suspicious vehicle was seen apparently trying to sell milk to people in the town.

Police say he was seen in a transit van on Thursday, and had an accent from out of the area.

Following the reports, members of the public have now been asked not to answer their door if they are unsure who is knocking on it.

PCSO Stephen Sherratt, of Staffordshire Police's Moorlands team, said: "We have had reports of a suspicious vehicle in the Biddulph area. It is described as a white Ford transit.

"The driver had a accent from out of the area, and was knocking on doors asking occupants if they wanted to buy milk from him. No further description is available.

"This may be genuine but we are asking residents to stay alert. If you are not sure who is knocking on your door then please don't answer it.

"If you have seen anything suspicious please call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 659 of 27th August."
