Thanks to Susan Ashman from Biddulph U3A for submitting this article! Susan has let us know about the many activities on offer at the U3A.

Biddulph u3a is there for anyone no longer in full time work. Our groups are run by members and there is a wide range of activities to choose from: â— If you've ever fancied learning a new language, we have French, Spanish, Italian and German classes. â— For those more interested in getting active, there's Badminton, Bowls, Table Tennis, Walking, Keep Fit, or Sequence Dancing. â— If music is your 'thing', how about Singing for Pleasure? Our group has a lot of fun and has regularly performed concerts and helped raise money for charity. Or, if you have a guitar but haven't played for a while, perhaps now is the time to dust it off and come and join us! â— Anyone who enjoys painting could join one of our Art groups. Their work covers various subjects and is often displayed at local exhibitions. â— For Crafters, the choice is plentiful; from Patchwork and Quilting through Embroidery and Parchment Craft to Card Making. Many of the cards made are sold to raise funds for charity. Also on offer is 'Scan 'n' Cut', where some delightful seasonal items have been produced throughout the year. â— Have you heard of Bobbin Lace? It's a traditional craft and very few places offer this. But if you fancy learning about how it's done, come along and find out more. â— Yoga, Pilates and Chair Exercise, new classes introduced very recently, have proved very popular, but there are still places available…. Perfect for anyone wanting a gentle introduction to getting more active. â— Watercolour for Beginners is a short course for people who want the basics. The places available for its first run here were snapped up, but it will repeat throughout the year. â— We are always interested in starting new groups, and one in the pipeline at the moment is 'Paint Your Own Pottery', where members can get creative with a different medium. â— For fans of Table Games there are Bridge, Mah Jong and Mexican Dominoes groups. â— If you enjoy reading, we have several Book Clubs, which may give you the opportunity to try a different genre or style of writing to your usual. Any member can start their own group and bring together people with the same interests, so if you'd like to start an Astronomy group, a Tap Dancing class, or Play Reading sessions (other ideas welcome!), come and join your local u3a. We have a base at Lund House, on the corner of Well St and Lawton St, where there is plenty of car parking space, and the bus stop is right outside. Some of our groups meet in the Library, the Town Hall or the Leisure Centre. If you would like to join, or are interested in finding out more, check out our website u3asites.org.uk/biddulph or get in touch with Phil Watts, Membership Secretary on 01782 518158.
