Update: Fire crews making good progress on getting large Mow Cop blaze under control

By Jack Lenton 20th Jul 2022

Fire crews are now making good progress on getting a large blaze that broke out in Mow Cop during record-breaking temperatures under control.

We reported yesterday how six fire engines attended large area of wild land on fire in Mow Cop.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said yesterday afternoon: "The fire is affecting buildings and rapidly increasing out of control. Firefighters are currently working hard to prevent it from spreading. The fire also involves a shed.

In an update later on yesterday, they added: "A water shuttle has been set up to get water to the area and firefighters are using hose reels, beaters and water from a main jet to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further."

And in another update just after 6pm yesterday evening evening, they added: "Firefighters are still working to extinguish this fire. Two main water jets are being used to protect property, which is the main priority currently.

"The Agrocat is in attendance and water shuttles are getting water to the area. A rotation of staff is in place to ensure the safety of our firefighters.

"Crews are using beaters to help extinguish the fire and they are making good progress."

Then just after 8pm, they said: "Crews are continuing to fight this fire and firefighters are being rotated for welfare."

Finally at 9am this morning, they said: "Crews are making good progress at this incident and relief pumps have taken over this morning from Crewe and Macclesfield. They will continue to damp down hot spots of fire and monitor the incident."
