Elections 2021: Biddulph Labour candidate Nigel Yates explains why you should vote for him

By Jack Lenton 29th Apr 2021

It's election time, and candidates all over the country are battling for the public's votes ahead of the big day on May 6th.

This also goes for Biddulph, where two seats at Staffordshire County Council are up for grabs - one in Biddulph North, and one in Biddulph South and Endon.

With the election getting closer by the day, we got in touch with all six Biddulph candidates to ask them to briefly explain in their own words why they think they deserve your vote.

Over the next few days, we will be posting their responses so you can read what they had to say and make your decision.

Next it's the turn of Nigel Yates, who is standing in Biddulph North for The Labour and Co-operative Party.

Mr Yates is a Town and District Councillor representing Biddulph West.

He is also a Chartered Engineer working as Business Development Manager for a global textile company – developing new products and customers for their three UK factories.

He said: "I'm a strong advocate of community involvement, and have worked tirelessly to engage in Community projects to make Biddulph, a better, safer and more sustainable place to live and work."

"I have initiated the creation of the "Friends of Biddulph Valley Way" and have helped support the community through the challenges of the Covid pandemic and lockdowns, delivering prescriptions, and assisting the local foodbanks. I am always on hand to help and advise Biddulph residents.

"I have previously served my community as a Special Constable and as a member of the Biddulph Regeneration Executive that helped deliver the bypass, Victoria Business Park, and the original creation and surfacing of the Biddulph Valley Way.

"I serve as Vice-Chair of the Climate Change working group at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and am proactive in steering the council's response to the issues that will arise due to global warming.

"This is your opportunity to elect a new generation of pro-active community-based councillors, please use your vote carefully."
