People have been asked to to park considerately when visiting local country parks and beauty spots this weekend.

With warmer weather forecast for the weekend and popular locations likely to be busier than usual, visitors have been urged not to cause any obstructions.

Staffordshire County Council has said that poor parking can not only cause problems for emergency vehicles but can lead to inconvenience for other road users and pedestrians, as well as harming wildlife and the countryside.

The authority has also warned that parking attendants will be in operation at the Roaches from Thursday (6 August) and anyone parking illegally or in a restricted area will be at risk of receiving a Penalty Charge Notice - people should only park in the designated parking bays.

Staffordshire County Council's cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said: "We're expecting more people to visit locations like The Roaches and Cannock Chase this weekend because of the fine weather and so we're asking everyone to park safely and legally.

"We want people to be able to enjoy our beauty spots safely and it's essential that emergency vehicles can access these locations at all times and are not obstructed by carelessly parked vehicles.

"Our parking attendants will be visiting the Roaches from Thursday and throughout the weekend to help encourage people to park responsibly, so please only park in the official parking bays."

Visitors are also being reminded to keep dogs on leads to help observe social distancing rules and not to have barbecues, light fires, or dispose of cigarettes carelessly.
