Biddulph residents turned out in high numbers to pay their tributes to those who gave their lives in the Armed Forces last week and at the weekend.

Services returned as normal both on Thursday (11th November) and Remembrance Sunday yesterday (14th November) after services had to be held on a smaller scale last year due to the Covid lockdown.

On the 11th, a meeting at the cenotaph was held at 10.50am for a period of reflection and remembrance, which included a speech read out by the town crier John Robinson, and the playing of The Last Post.

On Sunday there was a town centre event, led by the Royal British Legion, to commemorate those who served in all wars.

A procession from the Town Hall began at 10.30am and a service, wreath-laying ceremony and two minutes silence at the cenotaph was is followed by a service at Biddulph Methodist Church.

A video of Thursday's service has since been posted on Facebook. If you would like to watch it then please click here.

Biddulph Nub News reported last year how Biddulph marked Remembrance Sunday 2020 amidst a challenging set of circumstances, with the town continuing to commemorate members of the Armed Forces in the era of lockdown and social distancing.

A small act of Remembrance still took place at the cenotaph, however, and this was streamed live on Biddulph Town Council's Facebook page for residents to watch at home.

Other community organisations around the town also held their own Covid-secure Remembrance commemorations.

This included St Lawrence's Church, who recorded their Remembrance service and posted it to YouTube.

Some residents also marked Remembrance by bowing their heads for a minute of quiet tribute at the doorsteps of their homes at 11am - in a similar way to when people held a minute's applause to show their appreciation for NHS workers during the first lockdown.
